Ways to dispel, eradicate and prevent birds (Tools, Machine, Equipment) 

       The best way is to cut down their life cycle, i.e. water resource, food resource and habitat. Water and food resources are normally natural and hard to be controlled by human. So, the easiest element we can control is their habitat. When we cut this element off, their life cycle is incomplete and they will soon have to leave for new habitat. However, incorrect or unsuitable dispelling methods may cause the birds’ adaptation and make them come back with a more tolerant level.

Examples of bird dispelling methods with pros, cons and solutions are as follows:

      1.Net, sieve or ligament to impede birds. We must be careful with the angle and make sure that birds cannot cling onto otherwise they will be able to blight those obstacles and make the area their habitat and defecate still.

      2.Sounds from gun, firecracker, bomb, etc. These can be use for short period only. When birds get used to the loud sound, will there be any sound originators that work?

      3.Odors that birds hate e.g. odor extracted from grape seeds or chemical substance having direct impact on birds’ airway e.g. camphor, borneol and mothball which affect birds’ nervous system and make them nauseous, queasy and dizzy. It evaporates fast and must be used repeatedly which at the same time helps birds learn to brush it away.

      4.Rat glue board, resin or other greases. Birds will learn to cover the area with branches and live there as usual. If we prefer this method, as it is very simple, we’d better choose web bird repellent gel. The web will bind their wings and legs and form their flying imbalance. If the bird insists in flying, the web will bind tighter and it will be unable to fly at the end. So, this way will prevent birds from destroying, learning or adjusting themselves.

      5.Sharp obstacles e.g. breaking glass, and barbwire. If the bird has nowhere to go, it will assimilate and try to live on by destroying, pecking and hitting. (Pigeons tend to be possessive with their habitat.) 

      6.Bait stuffed with poison or raw betel mixed with paddy. This can be used merely once as birds will know and will not take it for second time. Also, the dead body will stink all over the place.

      7.Unfamiliar or foreign objects like replica, luminous objects or light waves. Yet, if these things cannot directly harm the birds, they will learn and no longer be scared. The effective choice would be hot laser or high power laser used at airports. Prices are out of the topic.

       8.Real animals e.g. cat, dog, hawk, etc. They must be trained well, know how to chase and not to eat the birds; otherwise, they might be infected and die.

       9.Trees to block the way. This does not work with other birds but pigeons, as they select only the safe place where they can view the surrounding. Pigeon will not live in the area where they cannot tell what outside is like.

       10.Orange nylon string stretched on shrimp or fish hatchery. The width of the check must be strictly based on the size of the birds.

       11. Other drive out birds method  depend on area’s condition  such as adjustment the natural balance  by drive out them to new habitat that we already seek for them.If need to reduce amount of birds, can be release varanus bengalesis or snake to eat their egg that can help to reduce bird’s populations.     

 

Another remark is that pigeons living in good environment or developed cities carry fewer diseases which implies that local diseases and the way local people use to evict birds affect their endurance. So, tools and equipments designed for the use in other countries will not work successfully in Thailand.
